Northern Star Scouting seeks a part-time Youth Program Leader, bilingual in Spanish and English to deliver our Scouting programs. This is an excellent opportunity to expand your skills in teaching and leading youth and adult volunteers, as well as strengthening your community development skills. $15.00 is your starting hourly wage with performance-based annual reviews and benefits which include training, paid sick and safe time, great co-workers, and the satisfaction of making a difference in the lives of youth!

As the program leader, you will work with youth ages 5-17 and their parents, many of whom speak only Spanish. Your ability to speak Spanish and English will be invaluable as you provide positive experiences at designated sites in St. Paul and Minneapolis communities. Work is part-time, up to 20 hours per week.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with youth and track their progress in achieving goals
  • Foster a positive learning environment
  • Develop youth leadership, teamwork, confidence, and skills
  • Engage parents and other volunteers to assist with activities
  • Work with supervisors and on-site program coordinators to manage youth
  • Perform administrative responsibilities
  • Plan and run weekly meetings, coordinate activities (times vary: afternoon, evening, some weekends)

Qualifications

  • Must be age 18 or older
  • Language proficiency in Spanish and English is required
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required, with some college preferred
  • Experience: Must have some experience working with youth in education, social services, youth development, or after school/community programs
  • Must be a leader, run effective program, learn/use Scouting curriculum, serve as a positive role model
  • Must be able to complete required training and paperwork, track participants' progress in achieving goals, and keep accurate records; strong organizational and communication skills are needed
  • Must have (or be able to obtain) a valid driver's license and reliable transportation; must be able to drive to program sites and be insurable in the state of Minnesota; reimbursement for approved business mileage is provided
