Northern Star Scouting, BSA seeks a year-round, full-time Camp Maintenance Ranger for Tomahawk Scout Reservation near Birchwood, WI. This position is one of two on-site maintenance positions at the camp. The primary responsibilities are the operations and maintenance of the 3,000-acre facility and providing support to youth and adult campers.

Responsibilities

  • Keep all physical property and equipment in operational condition and good appearance.
  • Be particularly alert to conditions which could affect health, safety, sanitation and good organization of the camp.
  • Perform scheduled routine maintenance throughout the property while following the correct operational procedures.
  • Approved by the Supervisor, the maintenance ranger will schedule, purchase, and order supplies and services; make regular inspections of buildings and grounds to determine essential repairs.
  • Participate in annual maintenance, road maintenance, and facility improvements.
  • Maintain current and historical documentation of all repairs conducted at camp.
  • Work with properties volunteers to ensure they have what they need to complete projects.
  • Give leadership to camp service project programs from the ranger priority project list.
  • Provide support during weekend programs and events as needed.

Qualifications

Required

  • High school degree or equivalent; must be age 21 or older
  • Skills: carpentry, plumbing, electrical, estimating, and construction planning
  • Able to lift items up to 150 pounds
  • Basic Microsoft Office computer skills
  • Must have a valid driver's license

Preferred

  • Technical college education
  • Volunteer management experience
  • Facilities management or Camp Ranger experience
  • Experience with heavy equipment operation
  • Ability to facilitate large construction projects with contractor level skills
  • Scouting experience is helpful, though not required
  • Must be guest-service oriented and able to work independently with little supervision

This position reports directly to the On-site Senior Maintenance Ranger, who reports to the Tomahawk Camping Director.

This exempt position starts at an annual salary of $35,568 with room for growth based on experience. Compensation also includes on-site housing, utilities, and work truck (valued at $18,500 and nontaxable).
