Housing and 3 meals a day provided. Access to camp activities, like swimming, boating, climbing towers, etc. Fun work environment, fun group of staff.

Seeking cooks for the upcoming summer season (June 6 through August 7, 2019) at Stearns Scout Camp, located near Annandale, MN. This employee is responsible for providing a quality food with the help of other kitchen staff. Three meals are prepared per day, serving up to 200 youth, volunteers and staff at each meal.   

Compensation is $5,000. Room and board are also provided, though they are optional. Reports to: Camp Director.

Specific responsibilities include:

Responsible for the preparation of camp foods. Ensure that meals are in accordance with good health standards and are appetizing to the campers.
Direct the preparation of meals. Responsible for coordinating cooking responsibilities with Assistant Cooks.
An adequate quantity of food shall be available to all campers and staff. Enough food should be available to feed healthy appetites for growing boys in an outdoor environment.
An inventory of all foods used to prepare the meal for each day shall be given in writing to Camp Director.
Supervise kitchen staff on the afternoon shift - Assistant Cooks and dishwashers. Ensure that food service personnel are in accordance with all BSA and governmental policies, regulations and standards while performing their duties.
Inform the Camp Director of problems with equipment, personnel or food.
Sanitation in the kitchen must be adhered to at all times. All food preparation surfaces must be kept clean and trash taken out regularly.
Review all meals and improve as needed.
Assist with all other responsibilities as directed. 

Qualifications include:

Work experience: Two years of food service experience is recommended; preferably in cafeteria-style setting, such as a high school or college cafeteria. Budget management experience is preferred. Strong verbal communication and problem-solving skills are required. Must be detail-oriented and accurate. Knowledge of Scouting is helpful but not required.
Work location: Must be able to live at camp or near camp for the season; room and board are provided within walking distance of kitchen.
Work schedule: Requires working at least 5 days per week, with one day off during mid week (the day off is usually Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday) and another day off on Saturday or Sunday.  Shifts are 11 hours long with two 30 minute breaks. Must be able to maintain regular attendance.  May sometimes require accessibility outside of normal business hours to deal with after-hours emergencies. 

Interpersonal skills: Must have the ability to get along with staff, youth campers, volunteers and vendors, and maintain a friendly and helpful attitude. Must have the ability to effectively enforce established kitchen (and camp) policies and procedures, and manage staff effectively. Must be able to be a team leader and player, build relationships and communicate effectively with kitchen staff to provide good customer service. Must be able to work independently as well as cooperatively, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
