We're seeking a part-time employee to help run our youth program in St. Paul during daytime hours. You will work primarily with Somali-American and/or African-American youth in a classroom setting. You will work with another staff member and will have some interaction with other adults.

For the remainder of the summer, this position needs to work 20 hours per week during the afternoons. Beginning in the fall, this position needs to work 20 hours per week, two to three days per week, from 8 AM to 2 PM.

This is an excellent opportunity to mentor youth (ages 6+) and gain valuable youth-development experience. You will also expand your skills in teaching and leading youth, as well as strengthening your community development skills. Training will be provided. The job can be tailored as an internship if you need it.

Responsibilities include working with another staff member to organize and deliver the program to kids based on our modular curriculum. Some kids face an opportunity gap that has contributed to an achievement gap. You can use our program's informal, hands-on education method to help narrow these gaps and make a difference in the lives of youth.

Compensation is based on delivering program one day every other week, with paid time allowed for you to prepare the program. The number of hours worked depends on your schedule and interest. You can work just ten hours per week if that's all you can do, or you can work up to 20 hours per week by working with additional groups. If your schedule changes, we will do our best to accommodate you.

Compensation starts at $14; reimbursement for approved business mileage is provided.

Benefits include training, leadership development, skills development, paid sick and safe time, free parking, great co-workers, and the satisfaction of making a difference in the life of a child.

Qualifications include:
- Age 18 or older.
- Applicants from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
- Language proficiency in Somali is preferred though not required.
- Education: High school diploma or GED is preferred; some college would be a bonus.
- Experience: Must have some experience, or be working toward a degree, in education, social services, youth development, or after school/community programs. Experience with a youth-serving organization is preferred though not required. Experience working with inner city youth between ages of 7 to 16 is preferred.
- An open, creative mind with a passion for recreation, sports, fitness, service learning, creative arts, personal development and the outdoors is highly preferred.
- Be willing to be a leader, work with another staff member to run a fun and educational program, learn and use the Scouting curriculum, and serve as a positive role model for youth.
- Be flexible and able to adjust to last-minute program changes as needed.
- Be able to complete required paperwork and training, track participants' progress in achieving goals; and keep accurate records. Strong organizational and communication skills are needed.
- Have (or be able to obtain) a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, ability to drive to program sites, and be insurable in the state of MN.
-For payroll processing, you will need to download the free "TimeWorks Mobile" app and clock in and out to record all time worked.
