Seeking a Cook for the remainder of the summer season, through August 21, 2017, at beautiful Tomahawk Scout Reservation, located near Birchwood, Wisconsin, approximately one hour north of Eau Claire and 2 1/2 hours from the Twin Cities. 

With the help of other kitchen staff, this employee is responsible for providing quality food service. Three meals are prepared per day, serving up to 1,200 youth, volunteers and staff at each meal.

Compensation is $600 for week. Room and board are also provided, though they are optional. Reports to: Food Service/Kitchen Manager.

Specific responsibilities include:
Responsible for the preparation of camp foods. Ensure that meals are in accordance with good health standards and are appetizing to the campers.
Direct the preparation of meals. Responsible for coordinating cooking responsibilities with Assistant Cooks.
An adequate quantity of food shall be available to all campers and staff. Enough food should be available to feed healthy appetites for growing boys in an outdoor environment.
An inventory of all foods used to prepare the meal for each day shall be given in writing to the Food Service Manager.
Supervise kitchen staff, Assistant Cooks and dishwashers. Ensure that food service personnel are in accordance with all BSA and governmental policies, regulations and standards while performing their duties.
Inform the Food Service Manager of problems with equipment, personnel or food.
Sanitation in the kitchen must be adhered to at all times. All food preparation surfaces must be kept clean and trash taken out regularly.
Review end-of-the-week evaluations by unit leaders with the Food Service Manager to identify problems with the meals.
Assist with all other responsibilities as directed by the Food Service Manager.

Qualifications include:

Work experience: Two years of food service experience is recommended; preferably in cafeteria-style setting, such as a high school or college cafeteria. Budget management experience is preferred. Strong verbal communication and problem-solving skills are required. Must be detail-oriented and accurate. Knowledge of Scouting is helpful but not required.

Work location: Must be able to commute to camp, or live at camp (N1910 Scout Road, Birchwood, WI 54817) for the season; room and board are provided. A private cabin will provided within walking distance of the kitchen. If the employee chooses to commute, a private cabin will be available for breaks.

Work schedule: Requires working six days per week, with one day off during mid week (the day off is usually Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday). Requires being on site daily. One cook will be on site from 5:30 AM to 1:30 PM and the other cook will be on site from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Must be able to maintain regular attendance. May sometimes require accessibility outside of normal business hours to deal with after-hours emergencies.

Interpersonal skills: Must have the ability to get along with staff, youth campers, volunteers and vendors, and maintain a friendly and helpful attitude. Must have the ability to effectively enforce established kitchen (and camp) policies and procedures, and manage staff effectively. Must be able to be a team leader and player, build relationships and communicate effectively with kitchen staff to provide good customer service. Must be able to work independently as well as cooperatively, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
